Recap


General Information:
1.       The SPASH Ski Team is being created to provide an outlet for students at SPASH to participate in competitive skiing and snowboard racing at the sanctioned high school level. 
·         High School skiing in Wisconsin is not sanctioned by WIAA and  is not subject to its rules.
·         The team is open to boys and girls, skiers and snowboarders.
2.       SPASH will compete in the Northern Ski League(NSL)
·         Includes  teams from Ashwabay, Ashland, D.C. Everest (DCE), Ironwood, Lakeland, Rhinelander, Rice Lake, Wausau East, and Wausau West.  New this year - SPASH and Antigo
·         Race meets are conducted under USSA (US Ski Association) and FIS (International Ski Federation) rules.
·         Race locations are at Granite Peak (twice), Indianhead, Christie Mountain, Ski Brule, and Ashwabay.
·         Each skier or snowboarder supplies his/her own equipment.  Hard ear cover helmets are required. Skiers are allowed to wear speed suits. Snowboarders are not allowed to wear speed suits.
3.       The decision to compete as a Varsity sport or a Club sport will be made at an opening meeting after the team is assembled and we have a head count. 
·         Information on the advantages and disadvantages of each will be sent out prior to the team meeting. 
·         SPASH requires a minimum of 10 members for a Varsity team.
Coaching, practices, and meets:
1.       Practices on Tues, Wed, & Thurs at Granite Peak with Wausau East, Wausau West, and DCE
·         Bill Haling - Wausau West, Skiing
·         Jeff Tolbin - Wausau East, Skiing
·         Jason Wendt - DCE, Snowboarding
2.       Events for the skiers are Slalom, Giant Slalom, and Super G.  Snowboarders compete in the Giant Slalom and Super G.  
Skiers will also have the option to join the Granite Peak  Ski Team and be eligible to race in the GPST races on Fridays and/or Sundays at Granite Peak.
Costs:   Plan on $1000 for the season
